High mobility group nucleosome binding domain 1 pseudogene 7 (HMGN1P7)

Target
HMGN1P7
Molecular classification
Pseudogene, Long non-coding RNA (lncRNA, if transcribed)
01

Overview

High mobility group nucleosome binding domain 1 pseudogene 7 (HMGN1P7) is a processed pseudogene in humans. By definition, a pseudogene is a genomic sequence that resembles a functional gene but is incapable of producing a functional protein product, often due to accumulated detrimental mutations or interruption of key coding domains. HMGN1P7 shares sequence homology with the functional high mobility group nucleosome binding domain 1 (HMGN1) gene but does not encode a functional protein. While some pseudogenes are transcribed into non-coding RNAs and act as regulatory RNAs (e.g., as ceRNAs or miRNA sponges in cancer), there is currently no specific evidence that HMGN1P7 itself plays a direct regulatory or pathological role. It is classified as a "processed pseudogene" and not as a classical drug target.

Biological functions

Acts as a competitive endogenous RNA (ceRNA)/miRNA sponge for parental gene targets if transcribed (inferred by analogy with HMGA1P7 pseudogene, a well-characterized ceRNA, but direct evidence for HMGN1P7 is not established)
03

Disease associations

Other (no specific literature linking HMGN1P7 to disease pathogenesis; many pseudogenes of related families are implicated in cancer via ceRNA mechanisms)
