Overview

Histamine release from basophils is a critical event in the immune response, particularly in allergic and inflammatory processes. Basophils, when triggered by stimuli such as allergen-bound IgE cross-linking their surface FcεRI receptors, rapidly degranulate and secrete histamine and other mediators. This leads to vasodilation, increased vascular permeability, and recruitment of other immune cells, which underlies symptoms of allergy, asthma, and anaphylaxis.
