Overview

Histidine triad nucleotide binding protein 1 pseudogene 2 (HINT1P2) is a genomic pseudogene derived from the HINT1 gene family. Pseudogenes are non-functional DNA segments that share homology with active genes but typically do not encode functional proteins[2][1]. They may arise from gene duplication or retrotransposition events and can acquire mutations that prevent normal transcription, translation, or protein function. Although some pseudogenes have regulatory effects—acting as noncoding RNA elements or modulating gene expression—the majority do not show protein-coding activity or direct disease relevance. HINT1P2 does not belong to traditional target families such as receptors, enzymes, or ion channels, and is not considered a therapeutic target. Its main relevance is as a genomic feature that may complicate molecular genetic studies through sequence similarity with the parent gene[2][4][1].
