Overview

Histone cluster 1, H2B pseudogene 3 (H2BP3) is classified as a pseudogene—a non-functional copy of a gene related to the histone H2B family. Pseudogenes such as H2BP3 possess sequence similarity to functional histone H2B genes but have accumulated mutations (e.g., frame shifts, codon changes, loss of regulatory sequences) that prevent them from encoding a functional histone protein[3][5]. Pseudogenes do not have known roles as therapeutic targets, enzymes, receptors, or other typical molecular drug targets. There is no evidence for an active biological function, disease association, or drug interaction regarding H2BP3. Its inclusion in databases as a target likely reflects confusion with functional histone H2B proteins, which are essential chromatin components, but H2BP3 itself does not encode a biologically active product[3][5].
