Histone Deacetylase Class IIb (HDAC Class IIb)

Target
HDAC Class IIb
Molecular classification
Enzyme, Histone Modification, Histone Deacetylase
01

Overview

Histone deacetylases (HDACs) are enzymes that remove acetyl groups from lysine residues on histones and non-histone proteins, thereby influencing chromatin structure and gene expression. Class IIb HDACs consist of two members: HDAC6 and HDAC10. HDAC6 is the main cytoplasmic deacetylase, targeting cytoskeletal proteins and playing roles in cell motility, protein degradation, stress response, and immune signaling. HDAC10 is structurally similar and may be involved in DNA repair and autophagy. Both enzymes are zinc-dependent and have become attractive therapeutic targets for cancer and neurodegenerative diseases.
