Histone H2B pseudogene 6 (H2BP6) is a member of the human histone cluster 1, with sequence similarity to the core histone H2B gene family, but classified as a **pseudogene** and does not code for a functional protein[2][4]. Histone pseudogenes arise from gene duplication and mutation events, sometimes retaining regulatory or noncoding RNA functions but typically not translated into protein or participating in canonical histone/chromatin biology[3][4]. While functional histone H2B proteins are critical for chromatin structure and regulation of transcription, DNA replication, and repair[1][4], pseudogenes like H2BP6 do not participate directly in these processes, and there is no evidence for direct involvement in disease, drug interaction, or serving as biomarkers.
