Histone H2B type 1-M (H2BC14) is a core histone protein found in humans and is a component of the nucleosome, the fundamental structural unit of chromatin in eukaryotic cells[1][5]. In the nucleosome, DNA is wrapped around a histone octamer consisting of two each of the core histones: H2A, H2B, H3, and H4. H2B type 1-M, encoded by the H2BC14 gene, participates in higher-order chromatin structure formation and regulates crucial cellular processes such as transcription, DNA replication, and DNA repair[1][5]. Like other histones, H2B undergoes post-translational modifications, including acetylation and methylation, that impact gene activity and chromatin accessibility[1]. The dynamic behavior of H2B within the nucleosome allows it to contribute to epigenetic signaling and chromatin plasticity[2]. Differential expression of H2BC14 has been observed in certain neurodegenerative conditions, suggesting a potential role in disease[4]; however, it is not currently considered a classical drug target or therapeutic receptor.
