Overview

Histone H2B type 2-F (H2BC18) is a core component of the nucleosome, which is the basic repeating unit of chromatin structure in eukaryotic cells[2][3][6][7]. The nucleosome wraps and compacts approximately 146 base pairs of DNA around an octamer of four core histones (H2A, H2B, H3, and H4)[7]. This histone variant is encoded by the HIST2H2BF gene, found in a gene cluster on chromosome 1, and is expressed in a replication-dependent manner[3][6]. Histones, including this protein, play central roles in regulating DNA accessibility for processes such as transcription, replication, and repair, thus maintaining chromosomal stability[7]. There are no current drugs, direct therapeutic targeting, or notable biomarkers specifically associated with HIST2H2BF, and there is no evidence for clinical safety concerns or use as a therapeutic target.
