Target intelligence / Profile preview
Histone H3 is a core histone protein that is essential for chromatin structure and function. It plays a critical role in DNA packaging, gene regulation, and chromosome stability. Post-translational modifications of Histone H3, such as methylation, acetylation, and phosphorylation, serve as epigenetic marks that regulate gene expression. Variants of H3 exist, including H3.1, H3.2, H3.3, CENP-A, H3.Y and H3.X which have different expression patterns across tissues, and in primates such as H3.Y, that preferentially binds in areas with open chromatin states promoting gene expression.
