HIV-1 Tat interactive protein 2 (HTATIP2), also known as TIP30 or CC3, is a short chain dehydrogenase/reductase enzyme with established tumor suppressor activity. It regulates multiple cellular processes including apoptosis, suppression of metastasis, and inhibition of angiogenesis (primarily via isoform 1), as well as nuclear import through NADPH-dependent mechanisms. Downregulation or loss of HTATIP2 is associated with increased tumor growth and metastatic potential through fine-tuning cell adaptation to hypoxia and expression of genes involved in metastasis, angiogenesis, and resistance to apoptosis. HTATIP2’s pro-apoptotic and anti-metastatic functions make it a prospective therapeutic target in cancer, although no approved drugs are currently directed at this protein. Its decreased expression is a potential biomarker of worse prognosis in multiple cancer types
