HIV Capsid Protein (CA)

Target
CA
Molecular classification
Structural protein, Viral protein
01

Overview

The HIV capsid protein, also known as CA or p24, is a major structural component of HIV-1. It forms the conical capsid core that protects the viral RNA genome. Essential for multiple steps in the viral life cycle including assembly, maturation, uncoating, nuclear import and integration. It interacts with numerous host cell factors which influences viral infectivity and sensitivity to antiviral drugs, making it a key target for drug development.
