Overview
The HIV envelope glycoprotein complex (Env), composed of gp120 and gp41, is essential for viral entry into host cells. Gp120 binds to CD4 and coreceptors (CCR5 or CXCR4) on the host cell, triggering conformational changes in gp41. Gp41 then mediates the fusion of the viral and cellular membranes, allowing the viral capsid to enter the host cell. This process is a key target for antiviral drugs.
