Overview
The HIV envelope glycoprotein (Env) trimer V2 apex region is a segment at the top of the Env trimer, formed by portions of the variable loops V1 and V2 from each gp120 subunit. It mediates viral attachment and fusion and is a major target for broadly neutralizing antibodies. The region is characterized by dense glycosylation, sequence variability, and a hydrophobic core, presenting significant challenges for vaccine development, but also opportunities for immunogen design focused on eliciting bnAbs.
