Target intelligence / Profile preview
Fusion inhibitors are a class of antiviral drugs that prevent viruses, most notably HIV, from entering host cells. They achieve this by blocking the fusion of the viral envelope with the host cell membrane, thereby inhibiting a critical step in the viral entry process. They target the viral protein gp41, preventing it from mediating membrane fusion.
Blocks conformational changes and fusion between viral and host cell membranes, preventing viral entry.
