HLA complex group 4 pseudogene (HCG4P)

HCG4P
Molecular classification
Pseudogene, Non-coding RNA, Major histocompatibility complex (MHC) region gene

Overview

HLA complex group 4 pseudogene (ENSG00000271581) is a non-coding DNA segment located in the human major histocompatibility complex (MHC)/HLA locus on chromosome 6. It does not encode a protein or exert a known biological function and is considered a nonfunctional genomic remnant—possibly a byproduct of evolutionary gene duplication within the highly polymorphic HLA region. While some HLA pseudogenes can produce non-coding RNAs, there is no evidence this particular pseudogene acts as a functional regulatory RNA. It does not participate in antigen presentation or immune signaling, and it is not used as a diagnostic or therapeutic marker. This is not a conventional molecular target—it is classified as a pseudogene in the HLA region and should not be annotated as a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or direct drug target.

Disease associations

No direct role attributedNo direct role in disease; associations may be due to linkage disequilibrium with functional HLA genes involved in autoimmunity, infection, and transplantation, but the pseudogene itself is not causal
