HLA complex group 4 pseudogene 3

Molecular classification
Pseudogene, MHC region (Major histocompatibility complex)
01

Overview

HLA complex group 4 pseudogene 3 (HCG4P3; ENSG00000237669) is a pseudogene located within the major histocompatibility complex (HLA) region of chromosome 6. As a pseudogene, it is derived from duplication of an ancestral HLA gene but does not encode a functional protein. The HLA region contains many such pseudogenes resulting from segmental duplications and genetic rearrangements throughout human evolution.[2][3] There is no evidence to support a direct role in immune function, disease, or therapeutic drug targeting. Pseudogenes in the HLA region are of interest primarily for evolutionary study and may, in some rare cases, be transcribed, but do not produce active molecules involved in immunity or other biological processes.
