Overview

HLX antisense RNA 1 (HLX-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) transcribed antisense to the HLX gene. Antisense lncRNAs like HLX-AS1 do not encode protein but are involved in the regulation of gene expression through epigenetic and transcriptional mechanisms. They can regulate nearby or distant genes at multiple levels, such as chromatin modification, transcriptional interference, or acting as molecular scaffolds[2][5]. HLX-AS1 has been noted in gene databases as related to the HLX locus[3], but specific functional and mechanistic data about its exact biological or disease roles remain limited in current literature. Generally, antisense lncRNAs have been implicated in cancer and other pathologies due to their roles in transcriptional and epigenetic regulation[2][5]. There is currently no evidence that HLX-AS1 is a direct therapeutic target (such as a receptor, enzyme, or transporter), nor are there any clinically approved drugs known to target it or biomarker/safety information specific to this transcript.
