HMG-box containing 3 (HMGXB3) is a chromatin-associated protein encoded by the HMGXB3 gene in humans[1][7][12]. It is classified as a non-canonical high mobility group (HMG) protein and contains a conserved HMG-box domain common among DNA-binding proteins such as transcription factors and chromosomal proteins[1][7]. HMGXB3 is involved in chromatin organization and may play roles in regulating transcription through alteration of DNA structure, but it is not a classical therapeutic target like an enzyme, receptor, or transporter[1][7][12]. Overexpression of HMGXB3 (or related proteins in the family) has been associated with cancer cell proliferation and migration, particularly in urinary bladder cancer and possibly in breast and renal cancers, suggesting relevance in oncogenic processes[8][11]. However, no FDA-approved drugs or direct therapeutic agents are known to target HMGXB3, and there are no established biomarkers or safety concerns documented for this molecule[8][11].
