HNK-1 epitope-mimetic binding refers to the interaction between molecules that mimic the HNK-1 carbohydrate structure (SO₃–3GlcAβ1–3Galβ1–4GlcNAc) and their binding partners, typically antibodies or proteins that recognize the native HNK-1 epitope. These mimetics, often small organic compounds or synthetic glycans, are used as research tools and potential therapeutics to modulate cell-cell interactions, neural development, and immune responses, particularly in autoimmune neuropathies where pathogenic antibodies target the HNK-1 epitope on myelin-associated glycoprotein (MAG).
