Target intelligence / Profile preview
Homeobox D10 (HOXD10) mRNA is the transcript of the HOXD10 gene, a member of the Abd-B homeobox subfamily that encodes a transcription factor vital for limb development and positional identity (NCBI Gene ID: 3236). In oncology, HOXD10 mRNA is a well-characterized target of microRNA-10b (miR-10b), which binds to its 3' untranslated region (UTR) to suppress translation and promote metastasis (Ma et al., 2007, Nature). This suppression leads to the upregulation of pro-metastatic genes like RHOC, facilitating tumor cell invasion and migration (Sun et al., 2015, Molecular Cancer). Therapeutic approaches involve using antagomirs or antisense oligonucleotides to sequester miR-10b, thereby stabilizing HOXD10 mRNA and restoring its tumor-suppressive functions (Liu et al., 2012, Cancer Gene Therapy). HOXD10 mRNA levels serve as a critical biomarker, where low expression often correlates with poor prognosis and advanced disease stages in various cancers (UniProt P09024). Additionally, HOXD10 is involved in the regulation of endothelial cell differentiated states, making its mRNA levels relevant in vascular biology (Myers et al., 2002, Journal of Cell Biology).
Restoration of HOXD10 protein expression through the competitive inhibition of microRNA-10b (miR-10b) binding to the HOXD10 mRNA 3' UTR using antisense oligonucleotides or antagomirs.
