Homeobox protein Hox-A9 (HOXA9) is a sequence-specific transcription factor encoded by the *HOXA9* gene in humans and other vertebrates[1][3][4]. It is a member of the homeobox gene family, which play critical roles in spatial and temporal regulation of gene expression during embryonic development[1][4][6]. HOXA9 regulates morphogenesis, cell differentiation, and provides cells with positional identities along the anterior-posterior axis in developing tissues[4][6]. It is located in the A cluster of homeobox genes (chromosome 7 in humans)[1][3]. Dysregulation, especially by fusion with NUP98, has been implicated in the pathogenesis of acute myeloid leukemia and pure erythroid leukemia, largely due to altered hematopoietic cell proliferation and differentiation[1]. HOXA9 is considered a key molecular marker and potential therapeutic target in leukemia research and precision medicine[1].
