Homeobox protein Hox-C11 is a sequence-specific transcription factor central to developmental regulatory systems that assign positional identities to cells along the anterior-posterior axis of multicellular organisms. It locally controls gene expression through DNA binding, particularly influencing morphogenesis and organogenesis, including the development of intestinal and renal tissues. Diseases associated with HOXC11 mutations or dysregulation include certain developmental disorders (e.g., ectodermal dysplasia) and several cancers, where it may function as a driver in disease progression. No drugs have been identified that directly interact with HOXC11, and it is not classified as a receptor, enzyme, or classical drug target.
