Target intelligence / Profile preview
Homeobox protein Hox-C6 (HOXC6) is a highly conserved homeobox-containing transcription factor belonging to the HOXC cluster on chromosome 12. It plays essential roles in embryonic development, tissue patterning, and cell differentiation. In adults, HOXC6 regulates gene expression programs that affect cellular identity, proliferation, and apoptosis. HOXC6 is frequently upregulated in a range of cancers—including prostate, breast, gastric, and several other carcinomas—where it may drive tumor growth, progression, and resistance to apoptosis. It influences pathways such as Wnt and Notch signaling, and is involved in morphogenetic processes, including bone development and tissue metastasis. In cardiovascular disease, HOXC6 expression correlates inversely with atherosclerosis and may affect macrophage function and cholesterol metabolism. While not currently targeted directly by any approved drugs, its oncogenic roles and biomarker potential in cancer, particularly in prostate cancer, have been highlighted in molecular and clinical studies[1][2][3][4][5].
Not established for any approved drugs; target modulation via gene expression interference (e.g., RNAi/knock-down) impacts cell proliferation and survival
