Overview

Homeobox protein Hox-D11 (HOXD11) is a sequence-specific transcription factor encoded by the HOXD11 gene, part of the homeobox gene family, which regulates morphogenesis in multicellular organisms[1][3][6]. HOXD11 is clustered on chromosome 2 in humans and coordinates developmental processes, particularly in axial skeleton and limb patterning and organogenesis, by providing cells with positional identities along the anterior-posterior axis[1][3][6]. Deletion or mutation leads to developmental defects of limbs and genitalia, and altered HOXD11 expression or mutation has been implicated in a variety of cancers[2][3].
