Homeobox protein SEBOX is a transcription factor belonging to the homeodomain protein family, encoded by the SEBOX gene in humans and various orthologous genes in other organisms such as mouse and zebrafish[3][4][7]. Homeobox proteins, including SEBOX, play an essential role in regulating gene expression during embryonic development, coordinating crucial processes such as mesoderm and endoderm specification, heart morphogenesis, and oogenesis[1][3][4][6][7][8]. SEBOX is predicted to bind DNA in a sequence-specific manner, regulating RNA polymerase II-driven transcription primarily in the nucleus[1][3][7][8]. Mutations or dysregulation of SEBOX have been associated with several developmental diseases, notably cleft palate with or without ankyloglossia and spermatogenic failure 1[4]. There is currently no evidence that SEBOX is a direct therapeutic target or that drugs modulating its function have been identified.
