HOMER3 antisense RNA 1 (HOMER3-AS1)

Target
HOMER3-AS1
Molecular classification
Long non-coding RNA (lncRNA), Antisense RNA
01

Overview

HOMER3 antisense RNA 1 (HOMER3-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA transcribed antisense to the HOMER3 gene. It is overexpressed in hepatocellular carcinoma and correlated with poor patient survival. Functional studies indicate that HOMER3-AS1 promotes tumor cell proliferation, migration, and invasion, inhibits apoptosis, and facilitates recruitment and M2-like polarization of macrophages in the tumor microenvironment, primarily by upregulating HOMER3 and activating Wnt/β-catenin signaling, as well as increasing the expression and secretion of CSF-1. HOMER3-AS1 is under investigation as a potential prognostic biomarker and a promising therapeutic target in liver cancer settings[2][4].

02

Mechanism of action

Modulation of HOMER3 expression and subsequent activation of Wnt/β-catenin signaling; Upregulation of colony stimulating factor 1 (CSF-1) to promote macrophage recruitment and M2 polarization.

05

Safety considerations

Lack of information on direct safety concerns or therapeutic challenges; as a non-coding RNA target, delivery and specificity may be general challenges for lncRNA-based interventions
06

Biomarkers

Potential prognostic biomarker for hepatocellular carcinoma (correlates with poor overall survival in HCC)Potential diagnostic biomarker (positive correlation with serum AFP concentration in HCC)
