Homo sapiens microRNA 1290 (miR-1290) is a small non-coding RNA molecule that functions as a post-transcriptional regulator of gene expression. It is widely characterized as an oncogenic microRNA (oncomiR) because it is significantly upregulated in several types of cancer, including pancreatic, colorectal, and non-small cell lung cancer [1][2]. By binding to the 3' untranslated regions of target mRNAs, miR-1290 suppresses the expression of various tumor suppressor genes, such as SOCS4 and KLF13, thereby promoting cell proliferation, migration, and the epithelial-mesenchymal transition [3][4]. Clinically, miR-1290 is highly valued as a non-invasive biomarker; elevated levels in serum or exosomes are associated with poor prognosis and early-stage detection of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma [5]. While there are currently no FDA-approved drugs specifically targeting miR-1290, it is a subject of intense research for antisense oligonucleotide therapy, where antagomirs are used to inhibit its function and reduce tumor growth in preclinical models [6]. This target represents a promising avenue for both diagnostic innovation and precision oncology interventions.
