host cell factor C2 pseudogene 1 (HCFC2P1) is a pseudogene annotated in human genetics. Pseudogenes are DNA sequences that resemble functional genes but typically lack the ability to encode functional proteins, usually due to mutations or truncations. There is no evidence that HCFC2P1 produces a protein or is involved in any biological pathway, function, or disease. It should not be confused with the functional gene host cell factor C2 (HCFC2), which encodes a protein involved in cell proliferation and differentiation and has known biological roles[1][9]. Instead, HCFC2P1's presence in the genome is presumed to be nonfunctional and of no current relevance as a therapeutic target[3][5]. HCFC2P1 is a nonfunctional pseudogene, is not a target for therapeutics or biomarker studies, and has no recognized role in health or disease. The correct canonical form for any functional studies would be "host cell factor C2 (HCFC2)"[1][9].
