The host-gut microbiota ecosystem is a complex symbiotic network comprising trillions of microorganisms, including bacteria, viruses, fungi, and archaea, that reside within the human gastrointestinal tract [1]. This ecosystem functions as a virtual organ, performing vital roles in nutrient metabolism, vitamin synthesis, and the development and regulation of the host immune system [2, 3]. It maintains the integrity of the intestinal barrier and protects against pathogen colonization through competitive exclusion and the production of antimicrobial substances [4]. Modern therapeutic strategies target this ecosystem using fecal microbiota transplants (FMT), probiotics, and engineered microbial consortia to restore a healthy microbial state [7]. Additionally, the gut microbiota significantly influences the pharmacokinetics and efficacy of various systemic drugs, including chemotherapeutic agents and immune checkpoint inhibitors [8].
