Host Immune Response Modulation Pathways

Molecular classification
Signaling pathway, Immune pathway, Regulatory pathway
01

Overview

Host immune response modulation pathways refer to the complex network of cellular and molecular mechanisms by which the host organism regulates, enhances, or suppresses its immune responses. These pathways are critical for maintaining immune homeostasis, defending against pathogens, and preventing excessive inflammation or autoimmunity. Both innate and adaptive immunity are involved in these processes, with numerous signaling cascades and regulatory proteins orchestrating the overall response. Key components include Pattern Recognition Receptors (PRRs), intracellular signaling pathways (NF-κB, MAPK, JAK/STAT, mTOR/AMPK), post-translational modifications (ubiquitination, SUMOylation), and cellular players like macrophages, dendritic cells, neutrophils, T lymphocytes, and B lymphocytes. Cytokines and chemokines play a key role as mediators. Many pathogens have evolved strategies to manipulate these pathways. Targeting these modulation pathways offers potential strategies for treating infectious diseases as well as autoimmune conditions.
