It also encompasses the adaptive immune system's B-cell receptors (BCRs) and T-cell receptors (TCRs), which recognize specific epitopes of the vaccine antigen to initiate long-term memory and antibody production (Janeway et al., Immunobiology, 2001). Furthermore, Major Histocompatibility Complex (MHC) molecules are essential for presenting these antigens to T cells, facilitating the coordination of the immune response (Rock et al., Cell, 2016). These receptors are the primary targets for vaccine design, where the goal is to achieve optimal activation of protective pathways while minimizing adverse inflammatory effects. Therapeutic manipulation of these receptors via adjuvants is a cornerstone of modern vaccinology, enhancing the efficacy of recombinant and synthetic antigens (Coffman et al., Immunity, 2010).
