“Host lymphohematopoietic cells” is a **descriptive phrase** used mainly in the transplantation and chimerism literature to refer collectively to all **lymphoid and myeloid cells of hematopoietic origin that belong to the recipient (host)**, including stem and progenitor cells and their mature blood and immune-cell progeny.[1][7][8][9][11][13] It encompasses host hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells in bone marrow that give rise to all blood lineages[3][10][14], as well as differentiated lymphoid-lineage cells (T cells, B cells, natural killer cells) and myeloid-lineage cells (monocytes, granulocytes, erythrocytes, megakaryocytes/platelets).[3][4][6][10][14] The term is commonly used when describing graft-versus-host and host-versus-graft reactions, mixed chimerism, and engraftment, where donor cytotoxic T cells can eliminate **recipient hematopoietic cells** and allow engraftment of donor hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells in the host bone marrow.[7][9][12][13] Because it denotes a **cell population/compartment** rather than a defined molecule, receptor, or single cell-surface antigen, it is not considered a discrete therapeutic “target” in the usual pharmacological sense.
