Host Protease

Molecular classification
Enzyme, Protease, Serine protease, Cysteine protease, Aspartic protease, Metalloprotease
01

Overview

Host proteases are enzymes produced by the host organism that catalyze the hydrolysis of peptide bonds in proteins. They are essential for numerous physiological processes, including protein turnover, hormone and neurotransmitter activation, blood clotting, immune responses, and tissue remodeling. Host cell proteases are also exploited by viruses to facilitate infection by cleaving and activating viral glycoproteins. Inhibition of these proteases is a therapeutic strategy to combat viral infections.
