Overview

Host tissue refers to the collection of cells and extracellular matrix composing the biological structures of an organism upon which other organisms (such as pathogens or transplanted cells) act, reside, or elicit a response[5][7]. Host tissues are not themselves therapeutic targets but serve as the site of infection, immune responses, and disease processes. Functional and pathological changes in host tissues underlie the manifestations of many diseases, including infections, inflammatory responses, cancer, and transplantation biology. The term encompasses a large and heterogeneous group of biological substrates and is therefore not specific enough to serve as a classic molecular drug target[6][7][5]. In summary: "Host tissue" or "host tissues" is a generic descriptor and not a well-defined molecular target, making it inappropriate as a canonical target entry for structured drug discovery or therapeutic targeting efforts.
