Overview

House dust mite allergen peptide-specific T cells are CD4+ T lymphocytes that recognize peptides derived from house dust mite (HDM) allergens, such as Der p 1, Der p 2, and others. These T cells play a central role in orchestrating allergic inflammation, including the promotion of IgE responses and recruitment of other inflammatory cells. Their dysfunction and dominance of pathogenic subsets (such as Th2) are key in HDM-mediated allergic diseases like rhinitis and asthma. Immunotherapy approaches targeting these T cells use short synthetic peptides representing dominant T cell epitopes of HDM allergens to induce immune tolerance, reduce allergic inflammation, and are being developed to improve the safety and efficacy of allergy treatments.
