Overview

HOXB cluster antisense RNA 4 (HOXB-AS4) is a human long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) transcribed from the HOXB gene cluster on chromosome 17. It does not encode a protein and is part of a class of natural antisense transcripts (NATs) found at HOX clusters, which are known to regulate the expression of adjacent HOX genes through epigenetic mechanisms such as methylation. HOXB-AS4 has been identified as displaying differential DNA methylation in normal versus pancreatic cancer cells, suggesting a potential role in cancer-specific gene regulation and as a putative biomarker for cancer. Its precise biological functions and mechanisms are not characterized in detail, and there is no evidence it is a direct receptor, enzyme, or transporter, nor that it currently serves as a direct therapeutic target[2][3][4][6][8].
