HOXC13 antisense RNA (HOXC13-AS) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) transcribed from the reverse strand of chromosome 12 at position 12q13.13. It spans three exons and overlaps with the HOXC13 gene. This lncRNA exhibits abnormal expression in several cancers, including nasopharyngeal carcinoma, breast cancer, oral squamous cell carcinoma, glioma, and cervical cancer. HOXC13-AS modulates tumor biology by acting as a competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA), sponging specific microRNAs and thereby regulating key oncogenes and tumor suppressors linked to cell proliferation, migration, invasion, and EMT. Its expression is closely associated with clinical outcomes, making it a promising diagnostic and prognostic cancer biomarker and a novel target for potential therapeutic intervention.
