Overview

HAGLR (HOXD antisense growth-associated long non-coding RNA) is a long non-coding RNA gene found in the HOXD gene cluster on chromosome 2. It is transcribed antisense to HOXD1 and HOXD3, and its primary transcript shows several splice variants. The molecule has been implicated in developmental processes, especially in growth trajectories and gut development in model organisms. Historically, deletion of HAGLR in mice causes reduced postnatal growth ("midget" phenotype), but subsequent studies suggest that effects attributed to HAGLR may instead be due to disruption of neighboring genes such as HOXD3. In humans, HAGLR has been associated with certain cancers, acting as a possible biomarker, though its mechanistic function, clinical utility, and biological significance remain incompletely understood[1][2][3].
