Overview

HPS1 antisense RNA 1 (HPS1-AS1) is a long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) transcribed from the antisense strand at the HPS1 gene locus[5]. Antisense RNAs generally function as regulatory elements that can influence the expression of their corresponding sense genes through a range of mechanisms, including modulation of transcription, mRNA stability, and epigenetic changes[1]. Although many antisense lncRNAs have been implicated in key biological and pathophysiological processes, there is currently no evidence in the primary genomics and biomedical databases that HPS1-AS1 acts as a protein, receptor, enzyme, or other canonical druggable target[5]. There is also no direct implication of HPS1-AS1 in specific pathologies, interacting drug compounds, or roles as a selection or efficacy biomarker. No safety concerns are noted, as there are no reports of direct therapeutic targeting of this RNA.
