Target intelligence / Profile preview

HSD11B1 antisense RNA 1 (HSD11B1-AS1)

Target
HSD11B1-AS1
Molecular classification
Long non-coding RNA, Other (non-protein-coding gene product)
01

Overview

HSD11B1 antisense RNA 1 is a human long non-coding RNA transcribed from the antisense strand of the HSD11B1 locus, with expression profiles suggesting roles in immune response regulation, suppression of tumor proliferation and metastasis, and modulation of inflammatory pathways such as TLR signaling. Downregulation of HSD11B1-AS1 has been associated with poor prognosis, advanced disease stages, and increased tumor cell invasiveness in melanoma, making it a promising candidate for diagnostic, prognostic, and therapeutic development in cancer and inflammatory diseases. Its biological effects are reportedly mediated through modulation of immune cell infiltration and activity (particularly T cells, B cells, and dendritic cells), as well as interaction with immune-related signaling pathways. HSD11B1-AS1 is validated as a cancer-associated and immune-regulatory lncRNA, with clinical and molecular evidence supporting its biomarker potential and therapeutic interest, particularly in melanoma and Kawasaki disease. No approved drugs or clinical therapies currently target HSD11B1-AS1 directly, and its safety profile remains unexplored.

02

Mechanism of action

Modulation of immune cell infiltration (enhances recruitment of T cells, B cells, dendritic cells); Regulation of cytokine signaling and immune cell activation

03

Biological functions

Immune response regulation (TZ signaling, IFN signaling, IL-2, and IL-6 pathways)Tumor suppression in melanoma (inhibits cell proliferation, migration, and invasion)Modulation of inflammation (via interaction with G0S2 and involvement in Toll-like receptor pathways)
04

Disease associations

Cancer (notably cutaneous melanoma, partially breast cancer)Inflammation (acute phase of Kawasaki disease)Other (potential roles in additional malignancies under investigation)
05

Safety considerations

Not defined; research is preclinical and focused on molecular function, not direct drug targeting
06

Interacting drugs

None directly verified; therapeutic targeting is experimental and under investigation
07

Biomarkers

Expression levels in tumor tissue (reduced expression correlates with poor prognosis in melanoma)Proposed as a diagnostic and prognostic biomarker for cutaneous melanoma (predicts survival, disease progression)
