Overview

HSD17B12 pseudogene 1 (HSD17B12P1) is a pseudogene identified in the genome of certain mouse strains (notably BALB/c) but not in humans[1]. It is related to the active HSD17B12 gene, which encodes hydroxysteroid (17-beta) dehydrogenase 12, an enzyme critical for estrone-to-estradiol conversion and fatty acid elongation[2][3][5]. The pseudogene can encode variant peptides expressed in some mouse tumors but shows no evidence of functional importance or expression in normal physiology or human disease[1]. Because HSD17B12P1 is neither active in humans nor associated with drugs or therapeutics, it should not be considered a therapeutic target.
