HSD17B3 antisense RNA 1 (HSD17B3-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) gene located on chromosome 9 (ENSG00000232283) and classified as an antisense transcript[1][3][6]. It does not code for a protein but potentially modulates the expression of neighboring genes through non-coding RNA regulatory mechanisms. Recent research has implicated HSD17B3-AS1 as a novel regulator involved in inflammation during acute phases of COVID-19, with evidence suggesting that downregulation of HSD17B3-AS1 by nanocurcumin can ameliorate proinflammatory cytokine responses and reduce complications in COVID-19 animal models[2]. There is currently limited knowledge regarding its roles in other diseases or its specificity as a therapeutic target.
