HSPA2 and ZBTB1 antisense RNA 1 (HSPA2-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA gene transcribed in the antisense orientation to the protein-coding genes HSPA2 and ZBTB1[4]. Antisense RNAs can regulate the expression of neighboring or overlapping sense genes through mechanisms such as transcriptional interference, chromatin remodeling, or RNA-RNA interactions[3]. HSPA2-AS1 belongs to the lncRNA family but does not encode a protein and is not currently associated with any defined therapeutic, receptor, enzyme, transporter, or biomarker functions. The molecular function of HSPA2-AS1 itself remains largely uncharacterized in the literature; it may share general attributes of antisense lncRNAs, such as fine-tuning gene expression at the transcriptional or post-transcriptional level[3][4]. Note: - HSPA2-AS1 should not be confused with HSPA2, which is a protein-coding heat shock protein with known cellular and disease functions, including roles in neurodegenerative disease and fertility[1][2][5]. HSPA2 is a therapeutic and diagnostic target, but HSPA2-AS1 is not. - While antisense RNAs are of growing interest for functional genomics and experimental modulation, HSPA2-AS1 itself does not have established interacting drugs or therapeutic indications as of this time[3][4].
