Overview

Human beta defensin 2 (hBD-2) is a small, cationic, cysteine-rich antimicrobial peptide that plays a crucial role in the innate immune response. It is primarily produced by epithelial cells and provides protection against a broad spectrum of pathogens, including bacteria (especially Gram-negative), fungi, and some viruses. hBD-2 also exhibits immunomodulatory functions such as chemoattraction of immune cells and induction of cytokine production.
