The human crystalline lens is a transparent, biconvex structure in the eye that focuses light onto the retina to enable clear vision. It is composed mainly of lens proteins called crystallins (α-, β-, and γ-crystallins) and specialized fiber cells that lack organelles to maintain optical clarity[2][4][3]. Over time, the lens can develop opacities (cataracts), leading to impaired vision that is often treated by surgical removal and replacement of the lens with a prosthetic intraocular lens (IOL) rather than by drugs. The term "human crystalline lens replacement" therefore refers to a surgical procedure, not to a molecular or drug target.
