Overview

Human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) phosphoprotein pp65, also known as UL83, is the most abundant tegument protein in HCMV virions. It plays a critical role in virion assembly, immune evasion by inhibiting type I interferon production and cGAS activation, and is a major target for host immune responses. Due to its immunogenicity, it is a key marker for diagnostic assays and a potential vaccine target.
