Human Endogenous Retrovirus W Envelope Protein (HERV-W Env)

Target
HERV-W Env
Molecular classification
Retroviral Envelope Protein, Membrane Glycoprotein
01

Overview

The human endogenous retrovirus W (HERV-W) envelope protein is a membrane glycoprotein encoded by the env gene of the HERV-W family. It plays a physiological role in cell fusion during placental development. It's involved in neuroinflammation and demyelination, especially in Multiple Sclerosis, and has been implicated in certain neuropsychiatric disorders. It mediates cell-cell fusion, triggers innate and adaptive immune responses, and activates pro-inflammatory pathways.
