Human Immunodeficiency Virus Type 1 Envelope Glycoprotein gp160 (gp160)

Target
gp160
Molecular classification
Glycoprotein, Viral envelope protein, Precursor protein
01

Overview

The HIV-1 envelope glycoprotein gp160 is a precursor polyprotein essential for viral entry into host cells. It is cleaved into gp120 and gp41, which mediate receptor binding and membrane fusion, respectively. gp160 is a major target for vaccine development and therapeutic intervention due to its critical role in the viral lifecycle.
