Overview
The HIV-1 Rev protein is a small, essential regulatory protein that plays a critical role in the post-transcriptional regulation of viral gene expression. It mediates the nuclear export of unspliced and partially spliced viral mRNAs, which are necessary for virion assembly. Rev contains an arginine-rich motif (ARM) for RNA binding and a nuclear export signal (NES) for recruiting host export machinery.
