Human IgG antibodies specific for Cav p 1–6 epitopes are a population of immunoglobulins produced by the human immune system that recognize the primary allergens of the domestic guinea pig (Cavia porcellus) [1]. These allergens, predominantly lipocalins (Cav p 1, 2, 3, 6) and serum albumin (Cav p 4), are responsible for inducing allergic sensitization and respiratory symptoms in exposed individuals [2]. In the context of clinical immunology and allergen-specific immunotherapy (AIT), these IgG antibodies—particularly the IgG4 subclass—serve as 'blocking antibodies' [3]. They function by competitively binding to allergen epitopes, thereby preventing the allergen from cross-linking IgE on the surface of mast cells and basophils, which would otherwise trigger the release of inflammatory mediators [4]. Consequently, the induction and measurement of these specific IgG antibodies are critical for monitoring the efficacy of desensitization treatments and the establishment of immunological tolerance [5].
